CHICAGO – More than $200,000 was raised for scholarships and athletics excellence Thursday night at the sixth annual Chicago Coaches Dinner held at the Westin Chicago River North Hotel.

The event, co-sponsored by McDonald’s and Coca Cola, was hosted by the Chicago Alumni Club in conjunction with the University of Miami Alumni Association and the Hurricane Club.

Director of Athletics Blake James, head coach Al Golden and assistant coaches James Coley, Hurlie Brown and Larry Scott were among the guests in Chicago. Distinguished guests also included Ted Hendricks (2008 Guest of Honor), Russell Maryland (2009 Guest of Honor), Michael Irvin (2012 Guest of Honor), Jonathan Vilma (2013 Guest of Honor), Gino Torretta, DJ Williams and Jarrett Payton. Torretta will be the 2014 honoree.

“We’d like to give a special ‘Thank You’ to the Chicago Alumni Club and all of our sponsors for hosting such an amazing evening celebrating UM Athletics,” said Jesse Marks, Associate AD for Development. “Year after year, this signature event raises the bar in providing support to our great university.”

The evening featured an intimate dinner setting, an in-depth Q&A with Coach Golden, assistant coaches and Hurricanes greats. Those in attendance also had the opportunity to bid on items in a silent and live auction with proceeds benefitting the University of Miami football program as well as providing scholarships to help local students attend UM.
