Miami Track Wraps Up Last Chance Meets

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami track and field program participated in its final meets before the NCAA Championships, competing at Georgia Tech and Grand Valley State University.

The Canes had a big day at the Georgia Tech Invitational, with several current and former Miami standouts shining on the track.

The women’s 4x400m relay quartet of Alaine Tate, Taneisha Cordell, Shannon Wright and Jokira Jiles took first place in their race with a time of 3:39.58.

The Hurricanes also placed sixth in the women’s 4x100m relay, as Wright, Jiles, Jasmyne King and Kelsey Balkwill combined to run the race in 46.33 seconds.

Tate also competed in the women’s 800m run and set an outdoor personal best. The junior placed second with a time of 2:06.58.

Balkwill finished seventh in the women’s 400m dash, running a personal-best 54.63. King also set a personal best in the women’s 400m, posting a time of 56.35 seconds.

Miami alumnus Dominique Darden won the women’s 400m hurdles with a time of 57.16 seconds. Fellow Cane alum Devon Hill also picked up a win, taking first place in the men’s 110m hurdles with a time of 13.92 seconds.

Christian Cook placed sixth in the 110m hurdles with a time of 14.58 seconds. The sophomore also ran the men’s 400m hurdles, posting a time of 55.12 seconds

Freshman jumpers John-Patrick Friday and Dakota Dailey-Harris each placed six in their respective events, Friday posted a mark of 48’ 4.5” in the men’s triple jump, while Dailey-Harris cleared 5’7” in the women’s high jump

While most of Miami’s track and field student-athletes competed in Atlanta, Isaiah Simmons spent Saturday in Allendale, Mich., competing at the GVSU Laker Last Chance Meet.

Simmons placed fifth in the men’s discus with a throw of 174’ 9”. The redshirt freshman also competed in the men’s shot put, throwing his implement 50’.
