Five @MiamiTrack Athletes Graduate in 2013

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Five members of the Hurricanes track and field program earned their undergraduate degrees from the University of Miami.

Greg Kaczka, Elyse Houston, Allison Ludwick, Samantha Williams and Jennifer Estime received their diplomas Friday during Spring Commencement exercises at the BankUnited Center.

Kaczka graduates with a bachelor’s degree from the University of Miami School of Business. The Glen Allen, Va. native set several records in his time at Miami. Kaczka set the school record in the men’s indoor mile at the 2013 New Mexico Classic with a time of 4:08.22. He was also part of the men’s distance medley relay that set a new Miami record at this year’s VT Elite Meet (10.02.83). Kaczka also set the UM record for the men’s 1500m run at this year’s Florida Relays with a time of 3:50.51.

Houston is one of three track student-athletes graduating from the College of Arts and Sciences. A sprinter and jumper, the Wesley Chapel, Fla., native competed in the 60m, 100m, 200m and long jump in her time as a Hurricane. Houston will enroll in law school in the fall.

Ludwick also graduates from the College of Arts and Sciences. The Yardley, Pa., native contributed for both Miami’s track and cross country teams. Ludwick competed in her final ACC Cross Country Championship this year, finishing the 6K race in 25:02.4. In track, Ludwick ran the 800m, 1000m, 1500m, mile, 3000m and 5000m for Miami.

Williams will participate in this weekend’s Commencement ceremonies and complete her requirements for a bachelor’s degree from the College of Arts and Sciences this summer. A standout jumper, Williams earned All-America honors as both a junior and senior at Miami. The St. Andrew, Jamaica native finished seventh in women’s triple jump at the 2012 NCAA Outdoor Championships with a career-best mark of 13.34m. As a senior, Williams finished fifth in triple jump at the ACC Outdoor Championships and earned wins at the Miami Invitational and the Hurricane Alumni Invitational, as well as at the VT Final Qualifier and Auburn Invitational.

Estime graduates from Miami’s School of Architecture. Estime competed for the Canes in both track and cross country from 2009-2012, running middle distance and relays. After exhausting her athletic eligibility, Estime spent the 2012-13 season focused on completing the last two semesters of Miami’s five-year architecture program.
