MTen Opens ACC Tourney Thursday vs. UNC
The No. 9–seed University of Miami men’s tennis team (13-12, 2-8) will face off against No. 8 North Carolina (11-12, 4-6) at 9 a.m. Thursday to open the 2013 ACC Men’s Tennis Championship at Cary (N.C.) Tennis Park.
The winner of Thursday’s first-round match will play No. 1 Virginia at 9 a.m. Friday.
Miami ended the regular season 13-12 overall with a 2-8 mark in the ACC. UM posted an 11-4 non-conference overall record with a 7-1 non-conference mark at home. The Canes defeated six nationally-ranked teams this season, including No. 50 Rice and No. 55 USF.
Sophomore Wilfredo Gonzalez recorded a team-best 16-8 overall record and a 5-5 mark in the ACC. Freshman William Albanese and junior Gabriel Flores each recorded 13 wins, followed by 12 from junior Diego Soto.
A pair of doubles teams posted five-win seasons, as Marco Stancati and Henrique Tsukamoto were 5-5 overall and Flores and Soto were 5-7 this year.
ACC Tournament action begins with first-round matches on Thursday and continues through Sunday’s 11 a.m. championship match.
