MTennis Ascends in Latest ITA Poll
CORAL GABLES, FLA. – After splitting a pair of tough conference matches against ranked opponents, the University of Miami men’s tennis team moved up to the No. 65 slot in this week’s Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) poll. Miami jumped up five spots from its previous ranking of No. 70 last week.
Miami competes in one of the toughest conferences in the nation, as the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) boasts four schools currently ranked in the top-25 including top-ranked Virginia, No. 4 Duke, No. 15 Clemson and No. 16 Florida State. The ACC also touts five other schools in the top 75 as Wake Forest (No. 28), North Carolina State (No. 45), Virginia Tech (No. 52), North Carolina (No. 70) and Georgia Tech (No. 74) are also in the rankings.
The Hurricanes are 11-5 on the season while being 1-1 in the ACC. Miami opened conference play last weekend with a 4-3 loss to then-No. 25 Clemson but responded with a strong performance against then-No. 63 Georgia Tech, earning a hard fought 4-3 victory over the Yellow Jackets. The Hurricanes own an 8-4 record against ranked opposition this season including wins over No. 53 Minnesota, No. 66 Rice and No. 75 North Florida.
