MTennis Moves Up Two Spots in Latest ITA Poll
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – After splitting a pair of dual matches last weekend, the University of Miami men’s tennis program has scaled up two spots in the latest ITA poll, moving from No. 69 to No. 67.
For the eighth consecutive week, ten schools represent the Atlantic Coast Conference in national rankings, including four currently ranked in the top-25. In ACC play, the Hurricanes will face top-ranked Virginia, No. 20 Clemson, No. 62 Georgia Tech and No. 65 Virginia Tech at home this season. On the road, Miami will battle No. 4 Duke, No. 22 Wake Forest, No. 26 Florida State, No. 44 North Carolina and No. 46 North Carolina State.
The Hurricanes, 7-4, are coming off back-to-back matches last weekend in Lubbock, Texas, where they faced then-No. 58 Texas Tech on March 1, followed by a match against New Mexico on March 2. The Hurricanes rallied from a 3-0 deficit against Texas Tech, but could not complete the comeback in a decisive No. 5 singles tiebreaker and loss 4-3. The Canes responded with a strong performance the following day against New Mexico, tallying five singles wins on their way to a 5-2 victory over the Lobos.
Miami will continue play on Saturday, March 9 as they host a doubleheader at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center against Georgetown at 10 a.m., followed by Florida Gulf Coast at 3 p.m. The Hurricanes are 4-1 at home this season.
