Soccer Recognized with NSCAA Academic Award
CORAL GABLES, Fla. — The University of Miami women’s soccer team has been awarded the 2011-2012 National Soccer Coaches Association ofAmerica (NSCAA) College Team Academic Award for theirachievements off the pitch and in the classroom.
The Hurricanes received the award, given to teams whose players accumulate a collective GPA of 3.0 or higher, for the eighth straight season. Miami has won the award every season since 2005, and also earned NSCAA honors in 2003. The Canes were one of nine teams recognized from the Atlantic Coast Conference to earn the award.
In his second year at the helm of the program, head coach Tom Anagnost continued his history of academic excellence.
While at Central Michigan University, his Chippewas finished with the top GPAin the nation for six straight seasons. They also won the Team Excellence Award(given to the CMU team with the highest GPA) five years in a row. 2011-12 marks the second consecutive season his Miami team has won the award.
