Paterson Named to ACC All-Freshman Team

CORAL GABLES, Fla. — Miami Hurricanes’ forward Jasmine Paterson was among the 11 players recognized with Atlantic Coast Conference All-Freshman honors, the conference offices announced Thursday.

“Jasmine is a special player,” head coach Tom Anagnost said. “She can do thingsthat most cannot do.  I am most proud ofthe young woman she is.”

Paterson, who finished tied for second on the team with seven points on the season, scored her first career goal in an Aug. 24 win over Morehead State. An 88th-minute goal, her second of the season, would seal a road win over NC State in the game’s final stages.

Paterson added three assists during her impressive campaign, including two in the team’s 2-0 road win over Clemson Oct. 7. The Key Largo, Fla. native started 15 of a possible 19 matches this season, missing two late in the year due to injury.

“She is learning how to work hard all the time and isgaining a stronger mentality,” Anagnost added. “Continuedimprovement in these areas could make her one of Miami’s all-time greats.”

Joining Paterson as ACC All-Freshman selections were Virginia’s Makenzy Doniak and Emily Sonnett, North Carolina’s Hannah Gardner and Summer Green, Florida State’s Carson Pickett and Isabella Schmid, Maryland’s Ashley Spivey, Virginia Tech’s Ashley Meier, Duke’s Cassie Pecht and Boston College’s McKenzie Meehan.
