Soccer Set for Battle with No. 9 Virginia

CORAL GABLES, Fla. — The University of Miami women’s soccer team will look to continue its winning ways Thursday night when the No. 9 Virginia Cavaliers arrive at Cobb Stadium for a crucial Atlantic Coast Conference contest.

The Hurricanes, fresh off a 2-0 win on the road at Clemson, have a tough challenge ahead in the visiting Cavaliers (10-3-1, 3-2-1 ACC). Virginia, boasting an offense ranking fourth in the conference in goals (33) and goals per game (2.36), will  be matched against a physical Miami defense sporting an impressive 0.98 goals against average.

The Cavaliers’ offense is paced by freshman forward Makenzy Doniak (eight goals, five assists) and senior forward Caroline Miller (seven goals, two assists). Junior goalkeeper Danielle DeLisle ranks sixth in the ACC with three shutouts and tenth in saves with 24.

Miami (7-5-1, 2-3 ACC) received timely performances from some of its youngest stars in its most recent win over Clemson. Freshman Allie Rossi opened her account as a Hurricane with a game-sealing goal, while fellow freshman Jasmine Paterson tallied two assists in the victory.

Kick-off is set for 7 p.m. from Cobb Stadium. To follow Thursday night’s action, a live video stream on Canes All-Access is available. LiveStats can be viewed on HurricaneSports.com once the game commences.
