Soccer Resumes ACC Schedule at Clemson
CLEMSON, S.C. — The Miami Hurricanes women’s soccer team looks to get back on track Sunday when it battles the Clemson Tigers in a key conference match-up at Riggs Field.
The Hurricanes (6-5-1, 1-3 ACC), who fell in their most recent contest against then-No. 13 UNC Sept. 30, will face another tough challenge in the Tigers. Though the team’s record stands at only 5-7-2, Clemson boasts a 4-1 record on its home turf and will be hungry for a win after dropping four straight matches.
The Tigers are paced by sophomore forward Liska Dobberstein, who has a team-high four goals. Despite strong play from redshirt junior Tabitha Padgett (two goals, three assists), senior midfielder Maddy Elder (six assists) and freshman midfielder Jenna Polonsky (two goals, one assist), the Clemson attack has not tallied a goal since a Sept. 16 match-up at Maryland.
After a dominant showing in their 2-0 win at N.C. State Sept. 27, the Hurricanes fell flat against a talented Tar Heels side in a 6-1 defeat. The Hurricanes will need strong showings from offensive standouts Jasmine Paterson (two goals, one assist), Ashley Flinn (two goals, one assist) and Kate Howarth (team-best three goals) if they hope to leave Riggs Field victorious.
Sunday’s contest, slated for a 1 p.m. kickoff, can be seen on ClemsonTigersHD. After their match-up with the Tigers, the Hurricanes return to Cobb Stadium for a two-game homestand against Virginia (Thur., Oct. 11) and Virginia Tech (Sun., Oct. 14).
