Heyboer Joins Staff as Volunteer Coach

CORAL GABLES, Fla. — Laura Heyboer has been officially named volunteer coach of the Miami Hurricanes women’s soccer team, as announced by head coach Tom Anagnost.

“Iam super excited to add Laura to our staff,” Anagnost said. “She was the first person I calledwhen the position became available and everyone involved is very glad she ishere.”

As the most decorated soccer player in Michigan State history, Heyboer enters her first season on the sideline in a coaching capacity. Heyboer, the Spartans’ all-time leader in goals (57), assists (25) and points (139), began her career with the Spartans in the fall of 2008. After a dominant freshman campaign, Heyboer became the first freshman to win Offensive of the Year in Big 10 history. As one of only four women’s soccer players to earn All-Big Ten accolades in four straight seasons, Heyboer now stands as the fourth-leading scorer in conference history.

“I have thoroughly admired Lauraduring my coaching career,” Anagnost added. “She is the best player I have ever coachedagainst and is an even better person.  She will make our program better inevery way.”

Heyboer majored in Kinesiology during her undergraduate career at Michigan State, maintaining a 3.56 G.P.A. en route to earning 2011 Capital One Academic All-America honors as a senior. She also led all of Division I scoring in her final year as a Spartan, tallying 18 goals during the 2011 campaign.

Before joining Coach Anagnost’s staff, the Hudsonville, Mich. native was selected by Sky Blue FC in the 2012 Women’s Professional Soccer (WPS) Draft and won the 2012 WPSL Championship with the Western New York Flash.
