Hurricanes Defeat Dayton 4-0 in Exhibition

DAYTON, Ohio — The University of Miami women’s soccer team cruised to a 4-0 win over homestading University of Dayton in the season-opening exhibition for both teams.

“Our women were excellent this evening,” head coach Tom Anagnost said. “Dayton is a very good team. We did very well in all the areas we trained in preseason, and I am very pleased with the result.”

Behind goals from Ali Brennan, Jasmine Paterson, Gina Maddi and Ashley Flinn, the Hurricanes overwhelmed the Flyers’ defense. Miami dominated the run of play during the contest, maintaining its signature control of possession under head Anagnost in Friday’s contest. Miami outshot the Flyers 21-15, including eight shots on target.

The Hurricanes took a 1-0 lead into halftime behind a goal from defender Ali Brennan, while goals from Paterson, Maddi and Flinn sealed the deal in the later stages of the contest.

Miami makes its return to the pitch Sunday afternoon for another exhibition contest against Ohio State University.

“The next level for our players is to see if they can learn and improve from the last time they play,” Coach Anagnost said. “Sundays are always about character, and their focus will be tested against a great Ohio State team.”
