UNC, Duke and FSU Headline Home Schedule

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – In the first year with an 18-game league schedule, the University of Miami men’s basketball team will host North Carolina, Duke and Florida State this season, as announced by the Atlantic Coast Conference.

During the 2012-13 conference season, Miami will play a home-and-home series against seven schools, including Florida State, North Carolina, Duke, Clemson, Virginia Tech, Boston College and Georgia Tech. The Canes will face Virginia and Maryland only at home and NC State and Wake Forest solely on the road.

The ACC has announced the tentative men’s basketball schedule for the 2012-13 campaign, listing games as either a weekday or weekend contest. A weekday game could be played on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday. A weekend game could be played on Saturday or Sunday. The schedule is listed to the right.

Miami’s non-conference schedule, which includes a home game on Nov. 28 against Michigan State as part of the ACC/Big Ten Challenge and three games in the 2012 Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic, will be announced in early September when the complete ACC schedule is released. The 2013 ACC Tournament will be held March 14-17 at the Greensboro (N.C.) Coliseum.

Fans can purchase single game tickets for all non-conference games beginning Nov. 1. Season ticket holders and Hurricane Club members can purchase ACC game tickets on Dec. 10, while those tickets go on sale to the general public on Dec. 14.

The Miami basketball team returns nine scholarship players from a season ago, accounting for 80 percent of Miami’s scoring, 87 percent of its rebounds, 82 percent of assists, 91 percent of blocks, and 83 percent of steals. Six of the top seven scorers, and eight of the top nine rebounders, return for the 2012-13 campaign.

Posting a 20-13 record and an appearance in the NIT’s Second Round, Coach Jim Larranaga was the first Miami coach to open his UM career with 20 wins. The Canes finished the season tied for fourth in the conference, a program best, and registered Miami’s first-ever winning record in the ACC (9-7).

Boasting six seniors, four juniors, one sophomore and three freshmen, Miami will be experienced as the Canes return all three players who earned conference recognition a year ago. F Kenny Kadji was selected to the All-ACC Third Team, G Durand Scott was voted an honorable mention performer and G Shane Larkin earned a spot on the ACC All-Freshman Team. C Reggie Johnson was a 2011 All-ACC Honorable Mention player and was on the 2010 ACC All-Tournament Second Team.
