Canes Announce 2012 Soccer Schedule

June 8, 2012

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Fresh off the deepest postseason run in program history, Miami Hurricanes’ head soccer coach Tom Anagnost released the team’s 2012 fall schedule on Friday.

The 20-game schedule features an impressive 13 matches against teams that made the 2011 NCAA Tournament, including three teams that advanced to the Final Four. The schedule is comprised of 12 games on the road and eight home contests at Cobb Stadium on the University of Miami campus.

“I am very pleased with the schedule for the fall of 2012. It is intentionally designed to be significantly more ambitious than last year,” Coach Anagnost said. “Each one of these teams will provide a different set of highly difficult challenges.   We will have to be at our very best each and every day.”

The Hurricanes will open with two matches in the state of Ohio, facing off with the Dayton University Flyers (August 10, 7 p.m.) for their season opener before a quick trip to Columbus and a showdown with the Buckeyes of Ohio State University (August 12, 1 p.m.). Miami will then return to the Sunshine State for road contests with Florida (August 17, 7 p.m.) and USF (August 19, 1 p.m.) before their home opener with Morehead State (August 24, 6 p.m.)

After their brief stay in Coral Gables, the Hurricanes hit the road once again for a match-up with in-state foe Central Florida (August 26, 1 p.m.) and a pair of games to be played on the campus of West Virginia University: one against the Pittsburgh Panthers (August 31, 1 p.m.) and another with the West Virginia Mountaineers (Sept. 2, noon).

Miami then returns home for their longest homestand of the season, a four-game stretch that includes their Atlantic Coast Conference opener. The Hurricanes will take on Idaho (Sept. 7, 7 p.m.) before conference match-ups with Wake Forest (Sept. 13, 7 p.m.) and Duke (Sept. 16, 1 p.m.). University of Texas-San Antonio rolls into town for the final game of the home stretch (Sept. 21, 7 p.m.).

Miami hits the road for a key part of their conference schedule in late September, including matchups with N.C. State (Sept. 27, 7 p.m.), North Carolina (Sept. 30, 1 p.m.) and Clemson (Oct. 7, 1 p.m.). The Virginia Cavaliers (Oct. 11, 7 p.m.) and Virginia Tech Hokies (Oct. 14, 1 p.m.) will make their way to Cobb Stadium before Miami visits Maryland (Oct. 18, 7 p.m.) and Boston College (Oct. 21, 1 p.m.). The Hurricanes wrap up their regular season with a battle against in-state rival Florida State at home (Oct. 25, 7 p.m.).
