CORAL GABLES, Fla. — Senior Jennifer Hirano and freshman Shannon Pak both carded five-over par 76 to lead the University of Miami on day one at the Atlantic Coast Conference Championships on Friday. The tournament is being held at the Sedgefield Country Club, the site where the Atlantic Coast Conference was founded in May of 1953.

Duke leads after the first 18 holes posting a 280. The Blue Devils sit four-under for the championship, which is 10 strokes better than North Carolina who is second at six-over par 290. Wake Forest (third, 14-over 298), NC State (fourth, 15-over 299) and Boston College (fifth, 17-over 301) finish out the top five. Miami is eighth at 24-over par 308.

Duke’s Alejandra Cangrejo leads the field after firing an opening round two-under 69. Senior Hirano shot three-over par 38 on the front nine with one birdie while shooting a two-over par 38 on the back nine with two birdies. Freshman Pak birdied on holes 3 and 18 and finished off the day seven strokes back of the leader. Both Hirano and Pak are tied at 19.

Freshman Rika Park and Leticia Ras-Anderica are also tied in 35th. Park and Ras-Anderica ended round one scoring seven-over par 78. Both found more success on the Sedgefield’s back nine as Park was able to birdie on 12 and Ras-Anderica pared 6-of-9.

Sophomore Carina Cuculiza rounded out Miami’s five by shooting a 13-over 84.

The 54-hole tournament continues with the second round on Saturday at the par-71, 6,163-yard course. The Hurricanes are paired with Florida State and Maryland during Saturday’s second round which will tee off at 8:30 a.m.
