CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami women’s golf team showed improvement at the Ole Miss Golf Course in Oxford, Miss., on Saturday. The second day of the BancorpSouth Rebel Intercollegiate concluded with four Canes shaving several strokes off their previous round.

Today’s action saw Baylor take the lead into the final day of the tournament while Jaclyn Jansen, also of Baylor, is ahead in the individual standing thru 36 holes.

For the second straight day Freshman Rika Park, from Fujieda Shi-Shizouka, Japan, carded the Canes low-round, firing an even-par 72. Park has played well since her new equipment arrived just in time for the tournament, including brand new clubs and glasses. She now moves up from 28th to 13th in the individual standings after two days.

Freshman Shannon Pak from New Orleans, La., enhanced her play by four strokes today. Her seven-over-par 79 included a very consistent front nine, paring eight of nine holes.

Others making headway included sophomore Carina Cuculiza, from Managua, Nicaragua, and freshman Leticia Ras-Anderica from Moraira-Teulada, Spain. Cuculiza marked an eight-over-par 80, cutting four strokes from yesterday, while Ras-Anderica went seven-over-par 79 and cut two swings off as well.

Individual improvements aside, the team still sits in 15th place, and with one round left the Canes will look to take this as an opportunity to finish strong. “In order for us to get better as a team we need to get better at picking the correct clubs and having our misses end up in the correct areas,” said assistant coach John Koskinen.
