Hill, Williams and Holmes Lead Canes at Florida Relays

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Miami men’s and women’s track teams wrapped up day one of competition at the Florida Relays. The Friday portion of the meet contained the individual events, and the Canes had multiple representatives across all the disciplines.

Leading the charge were seniors Devon Hill, Tarika Williams and Ashley Holmes. The national runner-up Hill ran the fastest time among collegians and the seventh-best time overall in the 110-meter hurdles at 13.58 seconds. ACC Champion Williams made her individual season debut in the 100 meters in 11.56 seconds, good for eighth place overall and fourth among collegians. Holmes placed second in the discus throw with a mark of 46.07m (151’ 2”). She was followed by freshman Amber Monroe, who placed fourth with a throw of 45.06m (147’ 10”).

In the women’s long jump, sophomore Nicole Cummings placed eighth with a jump of 5.85m (19’ 2.5”). All-ACC performer Thandi Stewart placed fourth among collegians in her 400-meter hurdles season debut with a time of 58.77.

Miami had some strong performances in the distance events during the evening session. Junior Greg Kaczka and sophomore Lindsi Arrington both had quality performances in the 1500 meters. Kaczka finished in a new season-best time of 3:53.57, and Arrington continued her streak of personal-best performances with a time of 4:32.05. In the men’s 5000 meters, sophomore JaCee Jarnagin ran a new personal-best time of 15:32.80.

The Canes will return to the track on Saturday for the remaining field events and the relay events, starting on the field at 11:30 a.m. with the women’s hammer throw and on the track at Noon with the sprint medley relays.
