CORAL GABLES, Fla.- For the second week in a row, the University of Miami women’s tennis team has moved up in the ITA National Team Rankings, this time breaking into the top-5.  Released Monday night, the Hurricanes now stand at No. 5 in the country.

Miami remained perfect since the last rankings were released, posting three key ACC victories over No. 21 Georgia Tech (5-2), Wake Forest (5-2) and NC State (6-1). The team’s overall record is 14-1 and they are currently at the top of the ACC standings with an undefeated 6-0 record.

The ITA also released updated singles rankings. Canes seniors Anna Bartenstein and Gabriela Mejia both jumped up in the rankings, with Bartenstein moving up two spots to No. 18, and Mejia improving from No. 32 to No. 26.  Bartenstein defeated Georgia Tech’s No. 22 ranked Jillian O’Neill in straight sets 6-1, 6-4 to help her achieve the ranking and Mejia picked up two more wins to give her a 14-2 record on the season.

The Hurricanes’ No. 1 and No. 2 doubles teams continued their recent success as reflected by the most recent doubles standings.  Melissa Bolivar and Liat Zimmerman advanced to No. 24 after defeating Georgia Tech’s ninth-ranked tandem of O’Neill and Alex Anghelescu 8-4 and Gabriela Mejia and Lina Lilekite made a huge leap from No. 74 to No. 37 as they carry a 14-1 record into the month of April.
