UM Moves up in Ranking to No. 6

CORAL GABLES, Fla.- The University of Miami women’s tennis team moved up six spots to No. 6 in the most recent ITA National Team Rankings released late Tuesday evening.
The Hurricanes are 3-0 since the last rankings were released, with convincing wins over ranked opponents such as No. 10 Baylor (6-1), Yale (6-1), and Princeton (6-1). Miami’s overall record stands at 11-1 (3-0 ACC) and they will seek to stay perfect in the ACC with a win over the Georgia Tech today at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.
Anna Bartenstein (No. 20) and Gabriela Mejia (No. 32) have been anchoring the team so far this season. The No. 1 and No. 2 singles players are 12-2 and 12-1, respectively, on the year.
Miami has also been getting plenty of help from some new faces. Freshman Lina Lilekite and Liat Zimmerman have been turning heads, with Zimmerman contributing to a current No. 29 ranking at the No. 1 doubles position, and No. 99 Lilekite carrying a 12-1 singles record at the No. 3 position for the Canes.
