Hurricanes to Battle Baylor in Meeting of Ranked Teams

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – After reeling off six straight wins to push its record to 8-1 on the season, the 12th-ranked University of Miami women’s tennis will face No. 11 Baylor on Tuesday at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center at 5 p.m.

The Canes’ ranked trio of Anna Bartenstein (12), Gabriela Mejia (25) and Lina Lileikite(118) have a combined singles record of 20-2 this season, with Lileikite owning a perfect 7-0 mark.

The Bears enter Tuesday’s match with a 12-4 record on the season and like the Canes have three players ranked by the ITA. Diana Nakic is ranked ninth, while Nina Secerbegovic and Sona Novakova are ranked 32nd and 47th respectively.

In its last match, Miami overwhelmed No. 48 Boston College, sweeping the Eagles, 7-0, for the third time in as many seasons. Five Canes won in straight sets, while Mejia and Brittany Dubins battled to three-set wins. Mejia dropped her first set, 6-7, then didn’t allow her opponent to win another game claiming the last two sets of her match, 6-0, 6-0.

The Hurricanes and Bears last met in the regular season in February of 2010, with Baylor edging Miami, 4-3. In that match, then No. 93 Mejia downed BU’s Taylor Ormond, 6-4, 6-2.
