CORAL GABLES, Fla. — Led by freshman Rika Park, the University of Miami women’s golf team head into the final round of play at Deering Bay Yacht & Country Club in first place. The Canes shot a 7-over par 597, its second lowest 36-hole total of the season, over two rounds Monday at the Hurricane Invitational.

Park finished the day tied for third after going 71-75 —147 (+5). She’s three shots back of current leader Brooke Bellamy of Campbell University who holds a slight lead after finishing 70-74—144 (+2). Park’s second round 72 ties her low round of the spring season, set back in the second round of the UCF Challenge.

Sophomore Carina Cuculiza swung into the top 10 after carding her best round of the year. Three birdies in the latter stage earned her a tie for sixth shooting a 7-over par 149 after two.

Three strokes behind Cuculiza is senior Jennifer Hirano. Hirano, the only upper classmen on the young squad is tied for 12th, along with freshmen Leticia Ras-Anderica, heading into the final round after both carding a 77-75—152 (+10).

The story of the day goes to freshmen Shannon Pak, who after shooting a team low 10-over par 81; shot a career best 1-over par 72 to end day one at Deering Bay. Miami (first, 29-over 597) holds a six stroke lead over the 16th ranked Ohio State University (second, 37-over 605) after two rounds. This marks the first time this season the Canes have held the lead heading into the final round of play.

The final 18 holes of the Hurricane Invitational get underway tomorrow Tue., March 6 at 8 a.m. (ET) with live scoring available via GolfStat.com.
