2012 ACC Championship Results

BOSTON–Director of Track and Field and Head Coach Amy Deem said earlier this week that Devon Hill and Tarika Williams were in “championship mode” as they prepared for the 2012 edition of the Atlantic Coast Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships. The senior duo lived up to the billing, earning silver medals in their respective events on the final day of competition at the Reggie Lewis Track Center.

Hill, the reigning ACC Champion in the 60-meter hurdles, finished second, crossing the line in 7.73. Williams, last year’s 200-meter champion, ran a 23.61 to finish as the runner up in the event. In addition to the silver, Williams ran the 60 meters in 7.33 for a fourth-place finish, adding four more points to the Canes’ tally.

The men’s 1600-meter relay team of Hill, Christian Cook, Bassim El-Sabawi and Brian Laskowski earned four points for the Canes with a fifth-place finish, crossing the line in 3:15.84. Senior Laskowski, running in the finals of the 800 meters, finished eighth with a time of 1:58.09 to earn a point for the men’s squad.

On the women’s side, the Canes earned two more top-10 finishes as senior Ashley Holmes heaved a personal-best 14.29m (46’-10 ¾”) in the shot put for seventh place. The 1600-meter relay team of Shannon Wright, Jokira Jiles, Jasmyne King and Jennifer Estime recorded a time of 3:46.90 good for seventh place.

Clemson won the women’s championship with 166.00 points and Florida State took the men’s title with 123.00 points. The Miami women’s team finished ninth with 32 points while the men posted 19 points for 10th place.

Miami is back in action next weekend at the Alex Wilson Invitational in South Bend, Ind., and the Virginia Tech Qualifier in Blacksburg, Va. before the NCAA Indoor Championships March 9-10 in Boise, Idaho.
