Women's Golf Move Up Three Spots to Number 10 in UCF Challenge

CORAL GABLES, Fla. — The University of Miami women’s golf team moved up three spots after shooting a 296 in the second round of play at the UCF Challenge in Sorrento, Fla. The Canes are currently in 10th place with a score of 597. Auburn and Baylor lead the field with a 569 each.

For the second straight day weather-interrupted the 6th annual UCF Challenge on Monday (Feb. 13). Both days play was delayed 30 minutes due to frost on the field. Temperatures later in the day heated up nicely, hitting 64 degrees.

Freshmen Leticia Ras-Anderica moved up 10 spots after a round that featured nine birdies, three bogeys and two double-bogeys. Ras-Anderica shot a 2-under-par 70 on the day and is currently tied for 3rd with a score of 142. She is tied with Tulane’s Maribel Lopez Porras and Diana Fernandez of Auburn, who moved up 40 spots from day one. Hayley Davis of Baylor leads the field with a score of 139 and Auburn’s Victoria Trapani with a score of 144 in 2nd after day two.

The second day of play also featured freshmen Rika Park making the biggest move for the Hurricanes, jumping up 14 spots into 29th after shooting an even-par-72 for a 147 total. Senior Jennifer Hirano carded a 175 total after shooting 8-over-par in the second round and sits in 61st place. Sophomore Carina Cuculiza advanced 12 spots into 84th and finished the day with a 12-over-par 156 total. Freshmen Shannon Pak is currently in 95th position shooting 21-over-par 165 after two days.

Overall, Auburn (first, seven-under 569) and Baylor (first, seven-under 569) hold a seven stroke lead over Tulane (third, even-par 576). Host UCF (fourth, one-over 577) and Augusta State (fifth, three-over 579) are within 10 strokes of the lead. South Florida (sixth, seven-over 583), South Carolina (seventh, 13-over 589), Kentucky (eighth, 18-over 594), Kennesaw State (ninth, 19-over 595) and Miami (tenth, 21-over 597) round out the ten.

The final round of the UCF Challenge gets underway Tuesday, Feb. 14 at 9 a.m. (ET) with live scoring available via GolfStat.com.
