Bartenstein Advances to Quarterfinals on Day One

CORAL GABLES, Fla – Senior Anna Bartenstein, turning in a strong performance as the number one seed in the singles bracket of the Jack Kramer Club Women’s Collegiate Invitational, lead the Hurricanes on day one of the inaugural tournament Friday.

Bartenstein, who defeated Kaitlin Ray of UCLA (6-3, 6-1) in the Round of 16 after receiving a first-round bye, will take on Khunpak Issara of Pepperdine in the quarterfinals set for a 10:30 a.m Saturday start time at the Jack Kramer Club complex in Rolling Hills, Calif.

The doubles team of Bartenstein and fellow senior Gabriela Mejia, which also received a first-round bye, defeated Miya Jin and Tory Parravi in the quarterfinals in their first match of the day. The duo will take on the #1-seeded doubles team of Pamela Montez and Skylar Morton of UCLA at 3:30 p.m.

After earning first-round wins in the singles bracket, sophomores Melissa Bolivar and Brittany Dubins both fell in tough matches in the Round of 16. After defeating Elisaveta Pironkova of Loyola Marymount, Bolivar came up short against Arianna Colffer of Pepperdine (7-6, 6-2) in the second round of the tournmanet. Dubins, who took down Reka Rohonyi of Loyola Marymount in the first round, fell to the #2-seeded Pamela Montez of UCLA (6-2, 6-2). The team of Bolivar and Dubins also fell short against the #2-seeded duo Alejandra Granillo and Lorraine Guillermo of Pepperdine (8-3) in the main doubles bracket.

The consolation draw of the tournament, as well as the quarterfinals and semifinals of both the singles and doubles bracket, will begin on Saturday starting with singles matches at 10:30 a.m.
