Ras-Anderica Leads Canes in Fall Finale

Oct. 26, 2011

Las Vegas, Nev. – Freshman Leticia Ras-Anderica shot a two-over par to lead the University of Miami women’s golf team in Wednesday’s final round action of the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown hosted by UNLV at Boulder Creek Golf Club.

In their final tournament of the fall season, the Canes shot a 316, and finished the tournament in 15th place. After 14 of the 16 teams broke 300 on day one, not one team broke 300 today.

“It was a tough day today obviously by the scores,” said UM head women’s golf coach Patti Rizzo. “It was a four club wind and difficult for the entire field. On a good note, we did move up a place.”

UC Davis took home the tournament win, shooting a five-over par 869. San Diego State (884), Pepperdine (884), Oklahoma (890), Louisville (891), UC Irvine (891) and UNLV (891) round out the top five.

Ras-Anderica had another good showing for the Canes today as she shot an even-par 36 on the front nine, and a two-over par 38 on the back. She birdied three holes on the day and was able to move up 27 spots into 36th place for the tournament.

Sophomore Carina Cuculiza and senior Jennifer Hirano each shot an eight-over par 80 on the day. Cuculiza registered par on 12 of the 18 holes and shot a two-over par 38 on the back nine. Hirano fired par on 11 of the 18 holes and shot a two-over par 38 on the front nine.

Senior Patricia Arana delivered a 10-over par 82 on the day, including two birdies. Freshman Rika Park shot an 11-over par 83, and also had two birdies.

This tournament concludes the fall season. The Canes first tournament of the spring season starts on February 12, as they play in the UCF challenge.
