Coral Gables, Fla. – The University of Miami swimming and diving team travels to the annual All Florida Invite this weekend hosted by the University of Florida in Gainesville, Fla. The event will take place at the Stephen C. O’Connell Center Natatorium.

Joining the host Gators and Miami will be Florida Atlantic, Florida Gulf Coast, FIU, Florida Southern, Florida State, North Florida and Nova Southeastern.

In last year’s All Florida Invite, Miami finished third as a team, using Annika Saarnak with a second place finish in the 100 butterfly. Saarnak also combined with Kelsi Hall, Whitney Stephenson and Lauren Jacoby for a third place mark in the 400 free relay.

Male diver Sam Dorman took home the top honor on the 1-meter springboard, and it was female diver Carrie Dragland taking the top prize at the same distance on the women’s side. Miami also got a solid third place performance from Sofia Johansson in the 100 breast as she walked away with a win, followed by Hall in second place.

Saarnak would later claim a win in the 100 freestyle.

UMiami enjoyed its season-opener last weekend at home at the Norman A. Whitten University Center Pool, joined by Florida Gulf Coast and Florida State in a tri-meet. Though dropping decisions to both the Seminoles and Eagles, the Hurricanes got a good performance from a variety of different student-athletes.

It was the Hurricanes female divers that stood out on the day. Behind Thea Vock, the Canes swept the 3-meter event, as Lindsay Lester and Kara McCormack followed Vock to go 1-2-3. Meanwhile, it was Lester taking first place in the 1-meter, followed by Vock in second and McCormack in fourth.

Johansson earned the win for Miami in the 100 breast as she produced a time of 1:03.52. She would add a second place finish in the 100 butterfly on a time of 56.68. Hall won the 50 freestyle and helped the 200 MR team to a second place finish as well.

Hannah Kling finished second in the 200 backstroke (2:04.01), and it was senior Dana Hatic finishing second in the 200 breast (2:18.97).
