Set a school record three times in her first year with the Hurricanes – breaking the UM record twice in the 100-yard backstroke and once in the 200 backstroke… School record-holder in the 100- and 200 backstroke… Posted all top-15 times for the Canes in the 100 back… Owned the six fastest times on the year in the 200 back and eight of the top-10 overall… Posted an NCAA “B” cut time in the 100 back with a career-best and school-record time of 54.86 at the Georgia Bulldog Invitational (Feb. 26-27)… Earned an NCAA provisional qualifying time in a school-record mark of 1:57.34 at the UGA Bulldog Invite… Claimed a win in the 200 freestyle in a time of 1:52.99 vs. FIU (Oct. 15)… Finished third overall at the UGA Bulldog Invite in the 100 back with a time of 54.98… Claimed wins in the 100 back against Florida Atlantic (Jan. 21) and FIU… Earned three victories in the 200 back with wins against Rice (Nov. 5), FIU/CCSU (Jan. 15) and Houston (Nov. 6)… Set a Rice University pool record in the 200 back with a time of 2:00.81… Won the 200 IM against Vanderbilt (Dec. 4) in a time of 2:09.43… Leadoff swimmer for the UMiami school record-holding 200 MR team at the Atlantic Coast Conference Championships (Feb. 16-19), turning in a third-place time of 1:38.88 – and claiming a split time of 25.88… Led off for the 200 MR team at the Georgia Tech Invite (Nov. 19-21), turning in a split time of 26.76 en route to a team second-place time of 1:41.35… Helped the 200 MR team to five wins… 400 MR team finished fourth at the ACC Championships and earned an NCAA provisional qualifying mark while she served leadoff with the team earning a time of 3:39.28… Also swam with the NCAA “B” cut qualifying 200- and 400 free relay teams…Before Miami…
Arrived to the University of Miami after spending three years at the University of Southern California… Stephenson raced in three events at the 2008 Pac-10 Championships, taking 22nd in the 100y back (56.99), 28th in the 200y back (2:04.88) and 29th in the 200y free (1:51.37)… Stephenson competed in two events at the 2007 NCAA Championships as a freshman, taking 45th in the 200y back (2:04.38) and 69th in the 200y free (1:51.15)… She also raced on USC’s 200y, 400y and 800y free relays… At the 2007 Pac-10 Championships, she was 16th in the 100y back (56.63) and 19th in the 200y free (1:50.51)… Her 1:49.56 in the 200y free and 2:01.15 in the 200y back against UCLA were both personal bests… Stephenson prepped at Nevada Union High in Grass Valley, Calif., where she was a high school All-American… At the 2006 U.S. Spring Nationals, she reached the finals of the 100m back… At the 2006 U.S. Spring Junior Nationals, she was a finalist in the 50y, 100y and 200y back and she also reached the finals of the 100m and 200m back at the 2006 U.S. Summer Junior Nationals… She was a California Sac-Joaquin Section champion in the 100y back and 200y free in 2003 and 2004…Personal
…Stephenson was born on June 22, 1988… Intended major is Studio Art… Her career objective is to work for “Sunset Magazine”… The daughter of Pam and Bruce Stephenson… Chose to attend UM because she felt comfortable and happy with the school… Says her favorite sports memory is her 100-meter backstroke time after she transferred at the U.S. Open in Federal Way, Washington… Says her first impression of Miami was that it felt like a tropical vacation…
