Canes Swimmers and Divers Conclude First Meet

Coral Gables, Fla. – The University of Miami female divers swept the 3-meter and finished 1-2-4 in the 1-meter in helping the Hurricanes in the season-opener for the swimming & diving team Saturday at the Norman A. Whitten University Center Pool. Also competing in the meet were Florida Gulf Coast and Florida State.

Thea Vock took the top finish in the 3-meter event for the Canes as she finished with a score of 327.00. Behind her were teammates Lindsay Lester (309.70) and Kara McCormack (298.20). On the 1-meter springboard, Miami’s Lester was the top performer with a judges’ score of 308.25. Vock finished second (285.65) and McCormack was fourth (281.00).

Junior swimmer Sofia Johansson earned the win for UMiami in the 100 breast as she produced a time of 1:03.52. Johansson would add a second place finish in the 100 butterfly on a time of 56.68.

The 200 medley relay team placed second with a time of 1:44.28 behind the swims of Whitney Stephenson, Johansson, Lucy Worrall and Kelsi Hall. Hall would go on to take the win for the 50 freestyle event, touching the wall in a time of 22.94.

Kling finished second in the 200 backstroke (2:04.01), and it was senior Dana Hatic finishing second in the 200 breast (2:18.97).

Worrall took a podium finish with a third place time of 2:05.37 in the 200 fly, while Stephenson was third in the 100 back (57.32).

FGCU defeated the Canes, 157-141, while the Seminoles of FSU took the meeting against UMiami, 202-96.
