Sept. 29, 2011
Coral Gables, Fla.- The University of Miami women’s golf team travels to Lexington, Kentucky this weekend to compete in the Bettie Lou Evans Fall Invitational.
The Canes are competing with 15 other teams, including Michigan, Illinois, Central Florida, Mississippi State and host Kentucky. The Canes are looking for their first tournament win of the young 2011 fall season.
The tournament begins Friday at 8:30 a.m., when the teams will play 18 holes. The tournament continues on Saturday with the second round and concludes on Sunday.
“I am excited to see how the girls play,” said UM head women’s golf coach Patti Rizzo. “We have our five strongest players here. They are all hitting it well and I feel confident it will be a good week.”
The Canes are coming off a fifth-place finish at the Mary Fossum Invitational two weekends ago.
The five Canes making the trip this weekend are seniors Jennifer Hirano and Patricia Arana, and freshmen Leticia Ras-Anderica and Rika Park, and for the first time this season sophomore Carina Cuculiza.
The freshmen led the way for the Canes in the Mary Fossum Invitational after the seniors had strong showings in the Cougar Classic.
Park had success in the Mary Fossum Invitational finishing +6, including a one-over par 73 on the final day. Ras-Anderica shot +9 for the tournament and delivered a one-over par 73 in the second round of the tournament.
