Miami Goes Undefeated on Day One of UCF Quad Tourney
ORLANDO –All four Hurricanes competing in this weekend’s UCF Quad Tournament went undefeated on the first day of play at the UCF Tennis Complex, going a combined 6-0 against opponents from UCF and Stetson on Friday.
Seniors Anna Bartenstein and Gabriela Mejia and sophomores Melissa Bolivar and Brittany Dubins all earned singles victories over opponents from Stetson, with three of UM’s four wins coming in straight sets.
Miami had the same type of success in doubles, where Bartenstein and Mejia teamed to beat Alexis Rodriguez and Genevieve Lorbergs, 8-5, and Bolivar and Dubins took down Courtney Griffith and Andrea Yacaman, 8-1. Both of UM’s opponents in doubles hailed from UCF.
Mejia’s singles win – an easy 6-0, 6-2 victory over Sara Lazaervic – was her eighth straight victory going back to the start of last year’s NCAA Tournament. Her classmate Bartenstein made quick work of Naella Wawrinka, 6-2, 6-1, Bolivar nearly blanked her opponent, Jen Miller, 6-0, 6-1 and Dubins earned her first singles victory of the fall with a 5-7, 6-2, 6-2 win over Clarke Tatje.
Action will pick back up Saturday morning.
