Camp Report: Telemaque Leads the Defense Tuesday Morning
CORAL GABLES, Fla.- Junior safety Vaughn Telemaque played well in coverage – pulling in an interception and recording several pass break-ups – as the Canes held their fourth practice of fall camp Tuesday morning on the Greentree Practice Fields.
One of the key veterans on a defense that ranked among the nation’s best in defending the pass a season ago, Telemaque has already been tabbed a preseason All-ACC candidate by both Phil Steele and Lindy’s this summer. Last season, the Long Beach, Calif. native recorded 59 tackles and a team-high tying three interceptions.
TUESDAY BRINGS COOLER TEMPS
After a blistering hot day on Monday, the Canes found some relief on Tuesday as cloudy skies held for most of the session. Even a light rain fell in the 10 o’clock hour and while it made things a little more difficult on the players in terms of gripping and footing, it was likely welcomed by all as it made for even cooler conditions.
HIGH PERFORMANCE PLAYERS
Throughout camp, HurricaneSports.com will highlight some of the best performers in each day’s practice. While there are certainly other players who stood out throughout the course of the session, these student-athletes in particular caught our eye.
Offense
TE Chase Ford – The senior tight end was a favorite of quarterbacks Jacory Harris and Stephen Morris in Tuesday’s practice, using his sizable frame to pull down anything in his vicinity. Ford had a particularly nice 1-on-1 drill, demonstrating his ability to cut and juke past coverage.
OT Malcolm Bunche – Even on an offensive line full of talent and experience, the redshirt freshman was the line’s most impressive performer on Day Four. The 6-7, 320-pound Bunche punished defensive linemen all practice long and was the key to many of the more successful runs and passes.
Defense
S Vaughn Telemaque – With an interception in 7-on-7’s and multiple pass break-ups, the junior safety was crucial in containing the Hurricane offense. Telemaque, along with the help of safety Ray-Ray Armstrong, made it tough on the quarterbacks to find receivers.
DE Anthony Chickillo – A highly-talented freshman lineman and Hurricane legacy, Chickillo held up to his family’s reputation on Tuesday. The defensive end, widely known for his endless motor, was the source of energy for a defensive line that often overpowered its offensive counterparts during team drills.

REVISITING BEHIND THE FACEMASK
Throughout camp, we will revisit some of our favorite Behind the Facemask stories that have been running throughout the summer. Today, we’ll take a look back at Olivier Vernon’s story….
“The U is special. Not many people can experience it. It’s a brotherhood–better than any other college that has a football team. We’re the only one called the “U”, it means a lot to wear the Orange and Green, to play with each other on the field. Especially with the alumni that played before us, the big names, just putting on that jersey is more than playing football. It’s bringing honor to those guys that have built the foundation here at the U and put this program on the map. We’re contributing to what they started and trying to do more.”
