Canes' Kelsi Hall Advances to US Nationals Finals
Aug. 4, 2011
Stanford, Calif. – University of Miami swimmer Kelsi Hall earned a spot in the finals of the 50-meter freestyle Thursday afternoon in the 2011 ConocoPhillips USA Swimming National Championships. The event runs through Saturday, Aug. 6, at the Avery Aquatic Complex on the campus of Stanford University.
Hall turned in a time of 25.76 in her heat of the long course event. She now advances to the finals of the event later this evening.
A rising senior, Hall transferred to the Hurricanes prior to the 2010-11 campaign from the University of Kentucky. On the year, she owned all five of UMiami’s top times in the 50-yard freestyle, while claiming six of the top 10 performances overall. Hall went on to set a school record in the 50 free at the Georgia Bulldog Invitational with a time of 22.53. In relay events, she was anchor for the top seven (7) 200 medley times for the Canes, and swam anchor for the 400 medley relay squad that tallied a school record time of 3:29.28 at the ACC Championships. Hall also swam the second leg for the school record-holding 400 free relay team that posted a mark of 1:31.86 at the ACC Championships in Atlanta.
Other UMiami swimmers that participated in this year’s national championships were Whitney Stephenson, Sofia Johansson, Dana Hatic and Annika Saarnak. Saarnak recently finished her eligibility for the Canes, turning in several school records in both individual and relay events.
This year’s championships will serve as the selection meet for the 2011 Pan American Games, October 15-22 in Guadalajara, Mexico, and the 2011 FINA World Junior Championships, August 16-21 in Lima, Peru.
NBC will air packaged shows on August 6 from 4pm-6pm and August 7 from 5pm-6pm ET. Click here for the full broadcast schedule.
