CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Miami tennis’ all-time wins leader Bianca Eichkorn continues to earn national recognition following her record-breaking senior season. The latest honor comes from the NCAA, as Eichkorn has been selected as UM’s nominee for the 2011 NCAA Woman of the Year Award.

The award honors outstanding female student-athletes who have excelled in academics, athletics, leadership and community service. In April, Eichkorn earned ACC Player of Year honors after going undefeated in conference play and just last week, was recognized as the conference’s scholar-athlete of the year for women’s tennis.

“This nomination still means a lot to me,” Eichkorn said. “My time at UM and this nomination is still a part of me even though I’ve graduated and back in Germany. The discipline and work ethic that I adopted during my four years will hopefully get me far in my new life as well.

“I am proud to represent the U with my nomination and I truly wish the best for every player who is or is going to be part of this team.”

A native of Tengen, Germany, Eichkorn won all but one of her ACC matches in straight sets this past season, wrapping up her career on a 21-match winning streak against league opponents. She finished her career with a record of 38-3 in ACC play.

She departed Miami as its all-time winningest singles player in both men’s and women’s history with 133 career victories. Her 241 combined singles and doubles victories is also a school record. She earned All-America honors each of her last three seasons, including in both singles and doubles this past season.

Academically, Eichkorn is a six-time member of the Dean’s List and was named to the UM Provost’s Honor Roll three times. The international finance and marketing major was an eight-time member of Miami’s Athletic Director Honor Roll and earned ACC Academic Honor Roll recognition three times. She was named ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 2010 and 2011. She also earned Capitol One Academic All-America honors this season.

The conference honorees for the NCAA Woman of the Year will be recognized on its website – http://www.ncaa.org/woty. The top 30 (10 from each division) honorees will be announced in late August. The NCAA Woman of the Year will then be announced during an awards dinner on Sunday, Oct. 16 in Indianapolis.
