The winner of Friday’s match between Miami and Georgia Tech advances to Saturday’s 10 a.m. semifinal to take on the victor of the quarterfinal match between top-seeded Virginia and ninth-seeded Maryland.

Miami has won at least one match in all six previous appearances at the ACC Championships, advancing to the semifinals three times and to the finals in 2008.

Senior All-American Carl Sundberg (19-11, 9-2 ACC) leads the Hurricanes, taking a team-best seven-match win streak into ACCs with a team-high nine victories in conference play this season at No. 3 and 4. He also won nine ACC matches as a sophomore in 2009. The last Hurricane to win as many conference matches was All-American Luigi D’Agord in 2007, going a perfect 11-0 versus ACC opponents en route to his second-straight ACC Player of the Year honors.

In doubles competition, the Miami tandem of senior Eduardo Pavia and freshman Pedro Ast has also won seven consecutive matches at No. 3 to close the regular season with a team-high 8-1 mark versus ACC duos. In addition, freshman Omar Aly and senior Keith Crowley are 4-0 for the Hurricanes this season, knocking off four-straight ACC opponents at the No. 2 spot.

The success of the Hurricanes at No. 2 and 3 doubles has given Miami the 1-0 lead in seven-straight matches and nine times in UM’s last 11 outings. The Canes are 10-2 when earning the doubles point this season.
