No. 24 Miami Hosts Pair of ACC Opponents to Close Home Slate

CORAL GABLES, FLA. – The24th-ranked University of Miami men’s tennis team closes its regular-season home slate this weekend, playing host to a pair of Atlantic Coast Conference opponents. The Hurricanes will take on No. 43 Maryland on Fri., April 8, at 3 p.m. and then face Boston College on Sun., April 10, at Noon on Senior Recognition Day.
Have a late lunch on the Hurricanes on Friday, as fans will have the opportunity to enjoy complementary Shorty’s BBQ at the match versus Maryland.
Miami (12-5, 6-1) rides a three-match win streak into Friday and has won four of its last five matches. At 6-1, the Hurricanes are in a tie for second place in the league standings with Georgia Tech, who the ‘Canes knocked off in Atlanta on March 12.
Conversely, the Terps (10-8, 2-5) have won just once in their last seven matches – a 5-2 victory over Clemson, while the Eagles (5-13, 0-7) are winless in league play and snapped a 10-match skid with the April 3rd non-conference win over Brandeis.
Miami will honor its five seniors – All-American Carl Sundberg, Christian Blöcker, Keith Crowley, Waylon Chin and Eduardo Pavia – during Sunday’s match. With a team-high 19-9 overall singles record, Pavia is among four Hurricanes with at least five singles wins in ACC play – alongside Crowley, Sundberg and freshman Gabriel Flores. In addition, Pavia, Crowley and Sundberg have each won three-straight matches entering this weekend.
With a team-best 8-3 record, the Hurricane duo of Blocker and Sundberg also ride a three-match win streak into Friday’s match and are 6-1 in ACC play.
