Ti'erra Brown Shines for Hurricanes at Florida Relays

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – In her 2011 outdoor season debut, University of Miami senior Ti’erra Brown captured the women’s 400m hurdle crown with a time of 56.91 in the 67th Pepsi Florida Relays on Percey Beard Track at James G. Pressly Stadium on Friday.

Freshman Hurricane Thandi Stewart finished at 58.85 in the same event, enough to place her fifth.

Miami’s top men’s performer was junior Devon Hill, whose time of 14.12 seconds was ninth-best in the men’s 110m hurdles.

Freshman Nicole Cummings and junior Rachel Dupree each competed in the women’s 100m hurdles and earned times of 14.12 and 14.47 respectively.

In field events, junior Ashley Holmes competed in women’s discus, where her top mark of 43.64m (143-02) placed her 13th. She later competed in women’s hammer throw where her toss of  50.10m (164-04) earned her a 16th place finish.

Megan Novinger placed eighth in the high jump with a mark of 1.70m (5-7.00).

In the final event of the day in which Hurricanes participated, senior Charles Michel clocked a time of 14:59.93 in the men’s 5000m run to put him at 18th in the competition, while, at the same time, freshman Sean Pezzulo ran a 9:54.29 in the 3000m steeplechase to finish 15th.

Action picks up again tomorrow, April 2nd. Gates open at 9 a.m. for the meet’s 10 a.m. start, and admission is $10 for adults and $5 for children.
