Miami's Sundberg named ACC Player of the Week

Coral Gables, Fla.–After a dramatic, three-set victory in No. 39 Miami men’s tennis’ win over No. 28 Florida State, senior Carl Sundberg has been named the Player of the Week by the Atlantic Coast Conference. Sundberg beat Jordan Kelly-Houston of FSU, 6-1, 4-6, 6-3 in the final match of the day to clinch the victory for the ‘Canes and move them to 1-0 in the ACC to conference play.

“We are really proud of Carl for him to be recognized as ACC player of the week. He’s done so much for our program,” Head Coach Mario Rincon said. ” The match that he clinched against FSU this weekend was similar to many other times he’s been able to win huge matches for us. He rises to the ocassion time and time again. With his continued leadership, we will improve throughout the rest of the season.”

This was the first Player of the Week honor for a Hurricanes men’s tennis athlete since Daniel Vallverdu won the honor in April of 2009. Player of the Week Sundberg and the Hurricanes are next in action on Friday at Central Florida before heading to South Florida on Sunday to complete a three-match, in-state road trip.
