Men's Tennis Falls at No. 12 Kentucky
LEXINGTON, Ky. –The 38th-ranked University of Miami men’s tennis team fell at No. 12 Kentucky, 7-0, on Sunday afternoon at the Hilary J. Boone Tennis Complex. After a quick turnaround following Friday’s home win over Troy, the Wildcats (7-2) – alma mater of Miami head coach Mario Rincon – were too much for the `Canes (3-3), earning wins in each position. Miami’s Christian Blöcker challenged Kentucky’s 32nd-ranked Alex Musialek at the No. 2 spot, before ultimately falling, 7-6, 6-4. At No. 3, UM’s Keith Crowley also put up a strong effort before dropping the 7-6, 6-4 decision to Brad Cox. After falling in the opening set 6-3 at the No. 4 position, Carl Sundberg nearly forced a third set versus Kentucky’s 72nd-ranked Alberto Gonzalez, but was defeated 7-5 in the second set for the Wildcats’ match-clinching point. “We lost to a really good Kentucky team today,” said Coach Rincon. “We will get back to Miami and work on the areas we need to improve. We are looking forward to playing FAU next Sunday.” Miami plays host to Florida Atlantic on Sun., Feb. 20, at 3 p.m. in a match that was rescheduled after inclement weather forced its postponement last month. Admission to all regular season matches at UM’s Neil Schiff Tennis Center is free. |
