Jan. 25, 2011
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami women’s tennis team moved up one spot to No. 11 in the Campbell ITA Division I Women’s Top 25 rankings, as released by the ITA on Tuesday.
The Hurricanes (1-0) are coming off a convincing 7-0 win in their season-opener against FAU last week in Coral Gables. All six singles matches went Miami’s way in straight sets, while the `Canes clinched 8-2 wins in all three doubles matches.
All-America senior Bianca Eichkorn (12-4 singles; 8-2 doubles) led the way in the opener in the No. 1 position for the `Canes, who will now play host to Arizona State, FIU and South Carolina this weekend in the ITA Kick-Off Weekend. The `Canes will take on FIU Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center after Arizona State and South Carolina meet at 10 a.m.
Eichkorn – currently ranked 14th nationally by the ITA in singles play – will be the top-ranked player at the event, which is free to the public.
Updated singles and doubles rankings will be published by the ITA every other week beginning Feb. 17.
