Jan. 21, 2011

Coral Gables, Fla. — The No. 44 University of Miami men’s tennis team (1-0) will conclude its season-opening homestand on Saturday as the Hurricanes host No. 30 Rice (2-0) on Saturday, Jan. 22, at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center. The dual match will begin at 1 p.m. and feature six singles and three doubles matches.

Miami is coming off Sunday’s season-opening 5-2 win against North Florida. Their match against FAU on Thursday was postponed due to rain. Despite only one match this spring, the `Canes are confident about this match and the outlook for the spring.

Rice, led by No. 44-ranked Harry Fowler, rides a two-match win streak into Coral Gables after wins over Lamar and Prairie View.

“We are excited for this match and will be ready for Rice on Saturday,” said head Miami coach Mario Rincon. “We have a team capable of beating anybody. The guys have to believe it.”

Admission to all regular-season matches at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center is free.

After Saturday’s match, the Hurricanes head to ITA Kickoff Weekend in College Station, Texas, for a pair of matches, beginning with a Jan. 29 meeting with No. 32 Arizona.
