The young Miami team is coming off yet another heartbreaking loss, as Clemson’s Lele Hardy’s last second layup in overtime dealt the ‘Canes a 73-72 loss – their third straight. It was also the third overtime loss of the season for Miami.

For the third straight game, Shenise Johnson scored 20 or more points – pouring in a game-high 22. Senior Diane Barnes recorded her seventh double-double of the season, scoring 10 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Both Riquna Williams and Stefanie Yderstrom hit three three-pointers in the game, scoring 17 and 11 points , respectively. Freshman Morgan Stroman scored in double-figures for the ninth time this season with 10 points.

A Look at the Yellow Jackets

Georgia Tech heads into Sunday’s contest having lost two straight to No. 10 Florida State No. 8/7 Duke by scores of 69-59 and 64-50, respectively.

The Yellow Jackets are led by Brigitte Ardossi who is averaging 15.3 points and 7.6 rebounds per game. Alex Montgomery and Sasha Goodlett score 11.8 and 10.0 points per game apiece. Deja Foster leads the team with 100 assists on the season.

Georgia Tech is averaging 67.6 points and 41.3 rebounds per game as a team. It is shooting 41.1 percent (661-1609) from the floor, 26.8 percent (84-313) from beyond the arc and 69.8 percent (419-600) from the free throw line. The Yellow Jackets also register 11.1 steals and 2.3 blocked shots per outing, while holding their opponents to 57.4 points per game and a shooting percentage of 38.6 (571-1478).

The Series

Georgia Tech holds a 10-7 all-time series lead with wins in the last four meetings. The two team met earlier this year and needed overtime to determine the winner, with the Yellow Jackets taking an 80-73 win at the Alexander Memorial Coliseum on Jan 27. Shenise Johnson scored 20 points and Riquna Williams added 19, but Tech’s Brigitte Ardossi’s 29 points and 17 rebounds were too much for the ‘Canes.

PINK ZONE

The WBCA began the WBCA Pink Zone®, formerly known as “Think Pink”, in 2007 as an initiative to raise breast cancer awareness in women’s basketball, on campuses and in communities. Kay Yow, former North Carolina State University head women’s basketball coach, served as the catalyst for the initiative after her third reoccurrence of breast cancer in 2006. In 2007, more than 120 schools unified for this effort and helped make the inaugural year a success. In 2008, over 1,200 teams and organizations participated, reaching over 830,000 fans and raising over $930,000 for breast cancer awareness and research. The 2009 campaign raised over $1.3 million, reached over 912,000 fans, unified more than 1,600 participating teams and organizations, and saw 56+ schools break attendance records at their event. The WBCA’s charity of choice is the Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund®, in partnership with The V Foundation. The WBCA strongly encourages all donations from Pink Zone games to be given to this Fund.
