Miami Women's Tennis Releases 2011 Schedule
Dec. 9, 2010
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Home matches against Florida State, Michigan, North Carolina and Duke highlight the 2011 University of Miami women’s tennis schedule, as announced Thursday by head coach Paige Yaroshuk-Tews.
The ‘Canes will open their spring season on Friday, Jan. 21 against FAU at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center before playing host to South Carolina, Arizona State and FIU in the ITA Division I Kick-Off Weekend, Jan. 28-31.
“We are excited to get going and have to be prepared for an early test the last weekend in January,” Yaroshuk-Tews said.
Miami will host FIU again two weeks later in a dual match on Friday, Feb. 11, two days before rival Florida State comes to Coral Gables for both team’s ACC opener on Sunday, Feb.13.
The Hurricanes’ first road trip of the 2010 season will come the weekend on Feb. 18-20 when the team heads to Charlottesville, Va. to participate in the ITA National Team Indoor Championships.
The rest of the spring schedule includes nothing but dual matches, starting with home matches against UCF on Sunday, Feb. 27 and Michigan on Wednesday, March 2.
From there, the ‘Canes will play six of their next seven matches on the road, beginning with the team’s first ACC road swing to Georgia Tech (March 5) and Clemson (March 6).
A mid-week match against UNC on Wednesday, March 9 is the Hurricanes’ lone home match in a span of 29 days as Miami will then make trips to Texas and Virginia over the next three weeks.
First up, the ‘Canes will face challenging tests with matches at TCU (March 12) and Baylor (14). Then after a weekend off, UM will play at Virginia (March 26) and Virginia Tech (27) on back-to-back days.
A home weekend against Wake Forest (April 1) and NC State (April 3) opens the month of April before the team embarks on its final regular season road trip to Boston College (April 8) and Maryland (April 9).
The ‘Canes will wrap up their regular slate with what could be the biggest match of the year, a meeting with Duke on Friday, April 15 at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center. The ‘Canes and Blue Devils are annually at the top of the ACC standings.

“The ACC is once again the toughest conference in the country on the women’s side,” Yaroshuk-Tews said. “I couldn’t be more fired up to play the best each and every weekend of conference play. It’s the only way to be truly prepared for NCAA’s.”
For the third straight season, the Atlantic Coast Conference Championship will be held at the Cary Tennis Park in Cary, N.C. This year’s tournament will run from April 21-24.
Following the ACC Championship, the ‘Canes will have three weeks to prepare for the NCAA Tournament, which is slated to begin on May 13 at campus sites. Miami has reached the NCAA Tournament 15 consecutive seasons and played host to a regional in each of the last six seasons under Yaroshuk-Tews.
“A large portion of our success this year will be based on how these young ladies return in January,” Yaroshuk-Tews said. “We have to hit the ground running.”
