Men's Tennis Closes Fall Season at Lakewood Ranch Classic

LAKEWOOD RANCH, FLA. – Freshman Omar Aly of the University of Miami men’s tennis team fell in the consolation singles semifinals to close fall competition for the Hurricanes on the final day of the Lakewood Ranch Clay Court Classic on Sunday.
After winning a pair of singles matches on Saturday to advance to Sunday’s semifinals, Aly fell to eventual champion Michael Alford of Florida, 7-6 (3), 6-3.
Aly, who finished his inaugural fall season with Miami at 6-6, was among five Hurricanes to win at least six singles matches during tournament play. Junior Santiago Nieto went a team-best 8-4, followed by senior transfer Eduardo Pavia at 7-4, senior All-American Carl Sundberg at 6-5 and fellow true freshman Gabriel Flores at 6-7.
The Hurricanes return to competition in January with dual-match play. Miami will open a three-match homestand versus North Florida on Sun., Jan. 16, at 10 a.m., followed by Florida Atlantic on Thurs., Jan. 20, and Rice on Sat., Jan. 22. Miami plays all home matches on campus at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.
