Hurricanes Continue Play at Lakewood Ranch Classic

LAKEWOOD RANCH, FLA. – Freshman Omar Aly of the University of Miami men’s tennis team went 2-0 in singles competition to lead the Hurricanes on day two of the Lakewood Ranch Clay Court Classic on Saturday.
After dropping his opening-round match on Friday, Aly bounced back on Saturday to win a pair of matches in consolation play. He knocked off Temple’s Kacper Rams, 4-6, 6-2, 10-6, and then went on to defeat Pepperdine’s David Sofaer in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4.
Seniors Carl Sundberg and Christian Blöcker also won matches in consolation competition on Saturday. The 96th-ranked Sundberg easily dispatched Temple’s Kurt Mauro, 6-0, 6-0, while the 72nd-ranked Blocker was victorious by default over Florida’s Nassim Slilam.
The Hurricanes wrap up their final fall tournament on Sunday.
