Two Hurricanes Named to Academic All-District Team

Nov. 3, 2010

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami’s Brittney Macdonald and Brittney Steinbruch have been named to the 2010 CoSIDA/ESPN District III Women’s Soccer Academic All-District Team, as announced by the Academic All-America Committee.

Macdonald earned first team honors for the first time after being named to the second team in 2008 and 2009. For the second straight season, Steinbruch was named to the second team.

Both Macdonald and Steinbruch are three-time Academic All-ACC Team members and will likely become the first Miami players to earn the distinction for a fourth time when the team is announced in the spring.

On the field, each player has proven to be the best in program history at their positions. Macdonald has led the `Canes to the three lowest goals against averages for a single season each of the last three years as a defender while Steinbruch became the school’s all-time leading scorer earlier this season.

However, off the pitch the women may be even more impressive. Steinbruch carries a 3.68 GPA as a Sports Administration major and Macdonald boasts 3.85 GPA and is a Biology major on a Pre-Med track. Macdonald was also one of the finalists for the University of Miami’s recipient of the prestigious Rhodes Scholarship.

As a first team all-district member, Macdonald is automatically nominated for the 2010 Academic All-America Team that will be announced on Nov. 18.

To be eligible for academic all-district honors, student-athletes must hold at least a 3.3 grade point average and be a sophomore in academic and athletic standing.
