Men's Tennis Hosts UM Invitational

CORAL GABLES, FLA. – The University of Miami men’s tennis team will play host to four teams for this weekend’s UM Invitational, running from Fri., Oct. 8, through Sun., Oct. 10, on campus at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center. Admission is free.

 

The Hurricanes, who return to competition following a successful showing at the season-opening Southern Intercollegiate Championships, will join visiting Florida State, Arkansas, USF and Florida Atlantic in round-robin play this weekend.

 

The singles field is divided into five flights with a champion emerging from each flight. Each student-athlete will have the opportunity to play four matches over the weekend. In doubles play, the field is divided into three flights.

 

Singles competition gets underway on Friday at 10 a.m., while doubles play will begin around 3:30 p.m. On Saturday, singles action kicks off at 10 a.m. On Sunday, the final day of the tournament, singles competition is slated to open at 9 a.m., followed by doubles after noon.

 

Behind seventh-year head coach Mario Rincon, the Hurricanes are led by 72nd-ranked senior Christian Blöcker (1-1), 96th-ranked senior Carl Sundberg (1-1), as well as vaunted freshman Gabriel Flores (4-1), who advanced to the semifinals in his Hurricane debut two weeks ago.
