Men's Tennis Falls to Top-Ranked Virginia

Charlottesville, Va. – The No. 1 University of Virginia men’s tennis team swept Miami, 7-0, on Friday afternoon in Atlantic Coast Conference play at Boyd Tinsley Courts in Charlottesville.
It marked the 20th-straight win for the top-ranked Cavaliers (21-1, 4-0 ACC), while the Hurricanes (6-7, 0-4) did not score a point for the first time this season.
Miami’s Christian Blöcker put together a strong match at No. 1 versus the nation’s fourth-ranked player Michael Shabaz and claimed the first set, but was just edged 6-7 (5-7), 7-6 (7-3), 10-6 to close play on Friday.
The Cavaliers’ three ranked doubles teams were all victorious to put the home team up 1-0. Virginia then won a pair of doubles matches in straight sets to take the 3-0 advantage. Despite a comeback effort by Keith Crowley at No. 3, the Cavaliers clinched the match as No. 33 Jarmere Jenkins took the 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 win.
The Hurricanes return to conference competition on Sun., March 28, at No. 20 Virginia Tech at 11 a.m.
