Hurricanes Wrap Up Practice No. 13
March 24, 2010
Coral Gables, Fla. – The University of Miami football team practiced in full pads Wednesday with another two-hour afternoon session at the Greentree Practice Fields as the Hurricanes gear up for Saturday’s Spring Game at Traz Powell Stadium on the Miami Dade College North campus.
The Hurricanes returned to the practice field after spring break on Tuesday, but worked in shorts and helmets. On Wednesday, Miami put the full pads back on and spent it fine-tuning red zone plays, blitz, team and third-down situations.
Miami will hold its final spring practice on campus Friday at 3:30 p.m. Miami’s Spring Game will begin at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday. UM will also hold its Pro Timing Day Friday. Pro Timing Day is closed to the public.
Shannon Post-Practice
After practice, head coach Randy Shannon met with members of the media, here’s some of what he had to say …
On defensive end Adewale Ojomo’s being back to his form of two years ago: Physically yes, but his timing has been off a little bit. He missed football for a year. But from where he was earlier in the year to now, he’s back to being physical, tough and exciting. He’s playing with a lot of emotion. His timing is off a little bit. Sometimes he will show some flashes and sometimes we’ll be like whoa you still have some work to do. His progress is really above the expectations. We still expect more from him though.
On any one position surprising him this spring: Not really. Running backs, being so young, are doing a good job. Kylan Robinson (at middle linebacker) is doing a good job. Vaughn Telemaque has stepped it up. The young offensive linemen have done a decent job. All around, guys have done a good job.
On defensive end Andrew Smith’s play thus far as well as other guys taking the next step: It’s improved a lot. The defensive ends have really done a good job. Andrew’s done a good job. You see them taking that next step. They’ve been here three years. When you get guys on your football team, in three years’ time, they should be ready to step in and play. For instance, Orlando Franklin, it took him three years to play a whole game. Those are the things you look at. These guys weren’t redshirted so this is their third year so they should be ready to take the next step. Pass rushing and staying consistent has really showed up in practice. The more you can continue to develop guys, the better you will be as a football team.
