No. 45 Men's Tennis Rolls Past Princeton, 6-1

Coral Gables, Fla. – The No. 45 University of Miami men’s tennis team cruised past visiting Princeton, 6-1, at home at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center on Saturday afternoon.

The Hurricanes (6-6) won five singles matches in straight sets to claim the match and even their record in dual-match play, while Princeton (3-10) dropped their fourth-straight match this week in the Sunshine State.

Miami’s No. 3 doubles tandem of Barnabas Carrega and All-American Carl Sunberg rolled to the 8-1 victory, while the Hurricanes rallied at the top-two spots to sweep the Tigers in doubles play.

David Simon extended Miami’s lead to 2-0 with his team-high 15th singles win of the season, knocking off Princeton’s Ryan Kim, 6-1, 6-2, at the No. 4 position. Sundberg added the third point for the Hurricanes with the 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 2 over Matt Spindler.

Keith Crowley clinched the win for UM, defeating Alex Faust, 6-1, 6-0, at the No. 3 position.

The Hurricanes tacked on two additional points, with wins at No. 6 by Santiago Nieto – in just his second match with Miami – and in the top flight as Christian Blöcker battled for the 6-3, 6-4 victory to improve to 13-8 this season.

 “I’m really happy to get another win under our belt heading into a challenging weekend,” said sixth-year Miami head coach Mario Rincon. “Our guys are playing much better in both singles and doubles and they seem to be peaking at the right time.”

The Hurricanes return to ACC play this weekend, heading back on the road to face top-ranked Virginia on Fri., March 26, at 3 p.m,. and then head across the state to No. 22 Virginia Tech for a match on Sun., March 28, at 11 a.m.
