Atlanta, Ga. – No. 26 Georgia Tech edged the 35th-ranked University of Miami men’s tennis team, 4-3, on the road in ACC play on Sunday afternoon.

The Yellow Jackets (9-3, 1-1 ACC) earned their first conference victory of the season, while the Hurricanes (5-5, 0-3) dropped their second-straight match in conference play by just one point.

The Hurricanes got off to a strong start as Miami’s No. 3 doubles pair of All-American Carl Sundberg and Barnabas Carrega picked up their first win of the spring with the 8-4 victory. UM’s No. 2 duo of Keith Crowley and Hector Nieto clinched the singles point and remain undefeated with their eighth-straight win, a tough 9-8 (7-3) decision at No. 2.

David Simon used straight-sets to claim his fourth-straight singles match to improve to 3-0 in ACC play and a team-best 14-6 overall with the 7-5, 6-3 victory at No. 6 to put the Hurricanes back on top, 2-1.

But Georgia Tech responded by winning three-straight singles matches to take the 4-2 lead and put the match out of reach for Miami.

The Hurricanes return home to the Neil Schiff Tennis Center to play host to a pair of non-conference opponents this weekend. Miami takes on No. 6 Kentucky on Fri., March 19, at 3 p.m., and then faces Princeton on Sat., March 20, at 3 p.m. Admission is free to all regular-season matches at Miami.
